Mammoth Fun…

While everyone has a different reason for living in Mammoth Lakes, there always seem to be some common themes:

At 7,800 feet, Mammoth Lakes is situated in the Inyo National Forest. Los Angeles lies 325 miles to the south and Reno is 165 miles to the North. 7,000+ people reside in Mammoth year-round, with the population swelling to over 35,000 during peak holidays. Driving slightly over the speed limit it is approximately a 5 hour drive from L.A. and 3 hours from Reno.

Based on figures compiled for more than 20 years, snowfall at Mammoth Mountain Ski Area average 385 inches annually with 300 days of sunshine. Winter temperatures average 30-40 degrees for a high and 10-20 degrees for a low. In summer, temperatures averages 75-80 degrees for a high and seldom dip below 40 for a low. If you don’t like the weather, no worries, as it will shortly change making Mammoth Lakes truly a year-round resort.

One note of caution, going to Vons is the “center of the universe” for the Town. Once you call Mammoth home, allow yourself plenty of extra time as you will know somebody on every aisle. Also, during the winter months never plan on going grocery shopping after the lifts close.
